This Sycamore tree is the inspiration for the creation of Sycamore Philanthropy. In late 2021, I was feeling burned out. Years of working under deadlines and the sense that it was never enough was taking its toll. I took a month off work unpaid. During this time, I went for walks in nature and I started working with a coach who encouraged me to be and not just do. Our culture is so geared towards productivity. I realized that my identity was tied to how productive I was being.
One day I went for a walk at a local nature preserve. After a few minutes on the trail, I saw the most beautiful Sycamore tree. She had several large trunks. I climbed up in her arms and felt an embrace. I sat in silence and tried to sink deep and listen. I started visiting this tree regularly. Since then, I have visited Sycamore many times. I have learned lessons of self-care, resiliency and clarity.
